• About Veggie Rx

Veggie Rx is not age specific and you do not have to have dependents to qualify.

    1. Healthcare providers screen clients for hunger.
    2. Clients experiencing food insecurity are enrolled in a fresh produce program.
    3. Local farmers supply produce for Veggie Rx participants
    4. Participants continue to receive a “dose” of fruits and vegetables while enrolled in the program.

    Impact:

In 2020, 11 programs across Oregon served an estimated 1,300 Oregonians with an estimated benefit equivalent of $320 per participant and their families for a total estimated benefit of 4-5 million dollars mostly spent on produce directly from small farms. This total does not include the cost of program operations.1

Veggie Rx programs were associated with statistically significant improvements in:

    •     Household food insecurity
    •     Self-reported health measures
    •     Social engagement
    •     Number of medications
